PEDN in partnership with The International Community of Women living with HIV Eastern Africa (ICWEA) and Aidsfonds are implementing a one-year pilot project called “Girls Take Lead project”, targeting 500 vulnerable Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW) between 15-24 years in Masaka district.
The goal of the project is to address the underlying structural factors (such as poverty and harmful gender norms) that disempower adolescent girls and young women and they end up engaging in transactional sex which exposes them to the dangers of acquiring HIV/AIDS.
The Project has a Pilot Research component, to test procedures for recruiting and enrolling adolescent girls and young women into the Girls Take Lead intervention and to explore the early impact of the curriculum on their perceptions of risks related to transactional sex.
Implementation kicked off in May 2020
