Ashoka and PEDN have a strong relationship which is as a result of Irene Mutumba the Founder & Executive Director of PEDN being an Ashoka Fellow herself. On 7th April, 2014 Ms Irene Mutumba was invited to attend the launching of the Ashoka Change maker Schools Programme, a networking breakfast meeting held at Google Campus. The ED was one of the panel members and she mainly emphasized the role of ICT in education PEARSON ROUND TABLE.
During the same period, through the Ashoka UK Office, the Executive Director was invited to a breakfast round table meeting to contribute to the topic, “ Looking beyond social entrepreneurship; the power of collaboration.” It was an intimate roundtable discussion with 10 Ashoka Fellows, partners and 10 Pearson educationists. A lively knowledge sharing discussion which brought with it new networks and prospective partners for PEDN Participants from Ashoka;

THE ASHOKA EAST AFRICA FY15 STRATEGIC PLANNING MEETING HELD BETWEEN 17-18TH SEPTEMBER 2014 NAKURU, KENYA
This was a teams of teams planning meeting that had the PEDN Executive Director directly representing the organization with key issues discussed including the following;
- Insights, lessons learnt on the Fellowship and Youth Ventures Initiative
- Support the development of a cross organizational structure that promotes teams of teams synergies and collegiality
- Help partners understand the EACH framework emerging from patterns identified over 35 years.
THE SEARCH FOR THE 2014 ASHOKA YOUTH CHANGE MAKERS
The Ashoka Youth Venture program seeks at identifying young people with dreams of changing their community and they are taken through a program which acts as a basis of selection of the desired change makers. The selected change makers must portray traits under empathy, teamwork, leadership and problem solving More than 250 youths applied for the Change makers camp and 100 were selected for the Change makers camp in Kampala. Of the 100 selected only 16 were selected for the final change makers camp which was held between 1st-4th December in Nairobi.
THE ASHOKA YOUTH VENTURE PROGRAM
Ashoka Fellows in 2006 launched Youth Venture an initiative that enables young people to dream up, design and launch their first change making venture.
The Ashoka Youth Venture- East Africa aims at identifying and empowering young people to become change makers through basing on their mastery of the key change maker skills of empathy, teamwork, leadership and problem solving.
As Ashoka Youth Venture Champions in Uganda, the PEDN search for Change makers was carried out in 10 schools and 2 youth groups. 100 successful youths took part in the YV Inspire Event that was graced by the presence of PEDN Board Chairperson ( Ms. Rita Sembuya ) and 16 were selected to represent Uganda at the Change makers Camp in Nairobi Kenya between 1st-4th December, 2014
